Compare county carrying costs

Side-by-side carrying-cost comparisons between counties for a reference $300,000 home — property tax, insurance budget, and monthly PITI.

Confidence: Medium — county-level ACS tax estimates paired with a Low-confidence insurance benchmark.

When a comparison is useful

A cheaper purchase price can still produce a higher monthly carrying cost when tax rate, insurance budget, and PITI move in different directions. The comparison pages hold purchase price constant so the tax and insurance differences are easier to see.

The pages are best for shortlist planning between nearby counties or common migration pairs. They do not replace a lender quote, a parcel tax bill, or a carrier insurance quote.

How to read the side-by-side math

Each comparison uses the same reference home value for both counties, then shows estimated property tax, modeled homeowners insurance, and monthly PITI under one shared mortgage assumption. That keeps the comparison focused on local carrying-cost differences rather than different purchase prices.

If a county looks cheaper on price but more expensive on carrying cost, open the underlying county pages to inspect the effective tax rate, median home value, insurance budget, FEMA risk context, confidence label, and data as-of date before making a shortlist decision.
